The newest SCX10 out of the camp at Axial Racing is the Ram Power Wagon. We did a quick unboxing last week. We went to Lake Park in Lutz Florida to explore some trails, and see if there was some good crawling spots in there. I had never been down the trails at Lake Park, only on the RC track itself, so I had no idea what we were in for on the trails. Not a lot, as it turned out.
I brought my Wraith along, as well as my daughter to wheel the second vehicle. We embarked down the first trail, and came across a ditch in the road. It was our first opportunity to see what this new Ram could do.
I navigated my Wraith through the ditch. Then my daughter went next. This was her first time driving a crawler and was not familiar with crawling slowly through an obstacle. She panicked a bit and gunned the trigger, which caused the truck to roll over to the bottom of the ditch, into a pool of water approximately 8″ deep.

This wasn’t an issue at first. The ESC and servo are waterproof. We were able to keep driving the truck from here. But this would hurt us in an hour or so. Keep reading to find out what happened.
We navigated a few trails. We didn’t find much to crawl over out there. But we did manage to pick up quite a few pine needles in one section.
And meet a friendly turtle.
We didn’t find much on the trail, like I said. But next to the RC track is a large mound of dirt. We had some fun crawling on it for a while. This is where the receiver getting wet earlier would come back to bite us.
First I took my Wraith up the pile. I still have the stock Krawler T/A’s on it. It took some work to get up there, but I made it. Then I took the Ram Power Wagon up the hill. To my surprise, it crawled right up there, on a much tougher line than my Wraith had done. The Ripsaw tires on the Ram Power Wagon dug right in, and gave me much more traction than I had with the Wraith.
I was so impressed with how well the Ram Power Wagon did, that I wanted to film it climbing the hill. So I handed the controller over to John, someone I had met there to crawl with. He started making his way up the hill, and had a tumble. At the bottom of the hill, the radio lost bind, and that was all she wrote.

When I got home, I had a spare AR3 receiver I had pulled from my Wraith. I put it in the Ram Power Wagon, and was able to bind it right up. I put the new receiver in a balloon and sealed it up before installing it back in the radio box. This is something we should have done before the first run, but we really weren’t planning on running it in water.
We’ll be taking this truck out again next weekend on a get together designed to prepare us for an upcoming G6. We’ll take plenty of pictures and video to share with you guys. We’re also planning on bringing the C/R Edition Jeep which we will be raffling off later this year for Children’s Miracle Network.
