I found HVR (High Velocity Racing) on Facebook while looking for new shorty batteries to run in my 2wd buggies. I first picked one up in April to run in our B4.1, which is setup for the Mod class. I started with a 13.5T Novak motor, but have since dropped in the 8.5T Savox motor that started out in our Pro-Line Pro 2.
As you can see from the picture, the HVR shorty pack is 2S, rated at 60C and 4000 mAh. I have since picked up a second HVR pack. This one is in a project B5 we are working on. For that project I weighed the Lipo. It came in at 204.4 grams.
Since I’ve owned these batteries, they have each stayed in balance. Balance charging them after a race is showing that they are coming off the track with each cell still balanced, never being more than .01V different from the other cell in the pack. I put together a short video to show the performance of this battery as a race wears on. This was a 5 minute race at Newred Hobbies in Ocala, FL. My B5 is the orange car with the white wheels. Here’s a picture of it courtesy of JVK Photography. Watch for a full article on this car in the coming weeks.

Time for some scores.
Value | At the time of this writing, the HVR 2S Shorty is $55. That’s pretty competitive in this market, and a great price for a battery of this performance level. |
Build Quality | Over the months of using this pack, the case has remained perfect. There has also been no puffing whatsoever. |
Performance | I’ve cycled this pack approximately 30 times. In those 30 charges, it has always shown to be balanced perfectly when coming off the track. It has the same punch from the beginning to the end of a race. On the 4000 mAh pack, I’m getting approximately 15 minutes of run time during practice. |
Durability | I’ve run this pack through both my stock and mod 2wd buggies and have not had a single issue. No puffing, no issues with the case. The included charging leads have held up to the repeated use. |
Would I buy again? | I’ve already purchased a second pack, and have plans to purchase a third to use in the Pro-Line Pro2. |
