Bag D up next! Differential stuff!
Unbagged.
Lubing those diff balls.
Diff rings seated.
Thrust balls/washer assembly.
Finishing up the diff assembly.
Now we put the bearings in the transmission case.
Bag E holds the rest of the parts for the gearbox.
Install the bearings on the top shaft and in the idler gear.
Start final transmission assembly.
The classic 3 gear transmission.
Transmission assembled.
We then install the wing mounts.
Then the motor guard.
Above are the slipper parts and motor plate.
First install the motor plate. I like this design over the old style where the transmission screws thread into the back of the plate. Here they install from the front.
Holy slipper clutch components! The B5 uses the new “basket” style clutch with triple slipper pads.
Most have seen this so I won’t go into it. It’s fairly simple. Follow the order of components outlined in the manual.
Transmission officially done and ready for install into the car.
6 screws later and the tranny is in the car.
