As a die hard Team Associated guy deciding to run the Tekno SCT410 took some thought. Once I did some research on the truck and saw local and national race reports it was a no brainer. Pros and local racers were winning with it all over the country in box stock form. I had been running my Team Associted SC10 4×4 for a couple of seasons with success but I was never happy with its performance outdoors. It also needed many upgrades to be competitive.
For a great back to back comparison I took all of the electronics from the Sc10 4×4 and used them in the Tekno. I built it box stock (click here for the full build). The biggest difference is the weight. It is much heavier than the SC10 4×4, but also durable. A three differential setup is nice to be able to tune for track conditions.
Our local track is CRC Raceway in Rome, NY. Their track is a topsoil and clay mix. It has high traction, but gets bumpy at times. It is also sized for 1/8 scale cars with long straights and huge jumps. As soon as I put it on the track I knew I was going to like it. It felt planted to the track and the handling was predictable. I started off taking it easy, but soon realized I could push it hard. Slow speed steering was great and high speed cornering was where it shined. I could take the large sweeper at full speed. Most trucks had to slow in fear of rolling.
The CRC locals heavily favor the Losi SCTE truck. My lightweight SC10 4×4 was no match when rubbing fenders. The Tekno was a different story. Swapping paint was no problem now. Even with the extra weight its jumping ability is awesome. Unlike most 4×4 SC trucks the Tekno SCT410 flies level with no need to add balance weight. Its large 1/8 size shocks soak up landings and any bumps.
I have not found any issues with the truck yet. I’ve had some big crashes at high speed and have had no broken parts. I was originally worried about the long driveshaft from the center diff to the front diff but I haven’t had any issues. I have had to replace a rear bearing but that is not a Tekno issue. I do take issue with the fact that the truck does not come with aluminum wheel hexes. There is no reason why a high level kit should come with plastic hexes. I used the box kit plastic hexes and rounded one off in practice. I knew it would be an issue but I wanted to race it before I put aluminum ones on.
My overall experience with the Tekno SCT410 has been awesome. I enjoy the handling and knowing I can push it to my limits. Tekno’s website is very informative and has many different setups. I would recommend this truck to anyone looking to get into 4×4 SC racing!
SCORES
Overall
The only thing keeping this from an almost perfect score is the lack of aluminum hexes. Companies need to start including aluminum hexes on their kits if they market them as a race quality kit. Buyers can expect this truck to be competitive straight out of the box.
