Yesterday was the 1st annual Stocking Stuffer Classic @ Redneck RC, co-sponsored by RC Soup. We teamed up with Redneck to bring a fun little trophy race to the off-road track after we helped plan their first ever race on the new carpet oval track last month (The LEFTover Cup). It actually turned out being not-so-little. Racers came from all over and STUFFED the place with a staggering 150 entries. We had guys from Mad Joe’s, Jerry’s R/C, Full Throttle, KRZ, RC Kinetics, Jim’s RC, High Voltage race track (Canada), MakinTraxx, CRC regulars, and more make their way to the new Redneck RC location (68 Smokey Hollow Rd, Baldwinsville, NY). Those tracks range from 45 mins to 4+ hours away in all directions! Thanks to EVERYONE who came out to the race and helped make it a resounding success.
The idea behind the Stocking Stuffer Classic was to have a fun trophy race right before Christmas, give away some door prizes, and keep the entry fee low (being it’s the holidays). People seemed to enjoy it. It was announced during the day that this would become an annual event. We can’t wait for the next one.
We kicked off the show @ Noon with Nate Reyes announcing the drivers meeting. He and Calvin did a great job announcing the races and keeping the show moving all day. Justin Kelly did a good job on the mic running a controlled practice again like he did with the Leftover Cup. I gotta say, this crew was really on their game running the show this weekend. Excellent work!
This is what 150 entries looks like. We ran them across 21 heats.
The Team Soup pit area. Thanks Matt Kitts for helping accommodate us.
Jarodd is doing his best to try to remember how to turn right and jump after spending most of the fall season on the oval.
Rocking the new Pro-Line EVO SC body. I have a write up coming this week on this body. Thanks to Tom’s Custom Paint Werks for the paint. Body is killer!
Jim Mehaffy joined us in the Soup pits.
We had a nice view of the track. Close to the action. Although sometimes a little too close. Just ask Mehaffy!
Jarodd’s Pro2 and Pro4 rides.
Some shots of the track and drivers stand.
Great to see the kids coming out to play. They are the future of the hobby.
The track was swept between rounds while we drew door prizes.
Panorama shot of the track.
Below are some shots of the pits. There was plenty of room to accommodate everyone.
Geo’s 22SCT. Rocking the JConcepts Nissan Armada body.
The kids kept themselves entertained with the RealFlight 7 simulator.
Rally time! It’s cool to see something other than the traditional short course body on the track.
Brian Bush was in attendance with his Durango fleet of cars.
Bill Suave’s good lookin’ X-Factory.
Matt Kitts and Caleb Hall getting ready for their heat.
Spotted a Twisted Skin!
This is the shop’s “rental” 4wd Short course. It’s a Traxxas Slash 4×4 disguised as a Durango haha.
Matt Kitts’ DEX410V3 buggy.
Caleb hard at work wrenching.
I mentioned Redneck had a carpet track. It’s in the same building, separated by a wall. Off-road guys were allowed to pit in there (and it was almost full!). Redneck did invest in thick heavy tarps to cover the track though. If we needed more room for pits, folks could have brought tables and pitted on the track like i’ve seen done at other races. Could easily accommodate another 40 or so spots.
So now that you get the gist of the turnout, the facility, and the track. Let’s talk a little more about the event. As I mentioned before it was a trophy race, with some holiday themed giveaway action.
We got ahold of some manufacturers and asked for “small” door prizes that would make great stocking stuffers. We had a pretty awesome response from the following event sponsors:
CowRC
Duratrax
TrakPower
Pro-Line Racing
Team Associated
Reedy
JConcepts
Twisted Skins by George Silliman
Twissted Wear
RC Soup
Moe’s
We took those small door prizes and stuffed them into actual stockings and drew winners thru the day for them. They held items such as CowRC pit towels, Duratax tools and pit gear, TrakPower lubricants, Pro-Line Tire glue, Associated hats, tools, oils, JConcepts wings & stands, JConcepts Gift Certificates, Free Race entries to Redneck RC, and more. Some stockings had so much stuff that they were bursting at the seams. We also did a giant one that was used as a “grand prize”. We had more items than stockings so we gave away single items as well including a Twisted Hood from Twisted Skins by George Silliman, RC Soup t-shirts, a JMC Carbon 22 mid-motor battery brace/esc shelf, and shirts by Twissted Wear.
Below is a shot of the prize table.
We were also selling raffle tickets for our 2013 Benefit for Children’s Miracle Network. We had the Avante out on display. For some it brought back memories, for others it brought questions. Quite a few people didn’t know what it was, and were asking all sorts of questions about it, which is awesome. I love supporting and talking vintage Tamiya with folks.
So each racer that signed up to race got one ticket. This ticket was what we used for the door prizes. We didn’t have a ton of prizes, so we did it one per racer instead of per class like at some events, simply to give more folks a shot at winning. With the overwhelming response to this race, we’ll have to plan for more next year.
Stockings being awarded!
Some RC Soup T-shirts being given out as well.
We gave away some Twissted Wear t-shirts paired with JConcepts wings (they didn’t fit in a stocking).
More happy stocking winners.
Dan Levy took home the grand prize stocking. Among other things, this had a rollable pit mat, an RC Soup decaled parts bin, Associated wrench driver set, TrakPower lubricants, JConcepts gift certificate and more.
Now for the awards, podium shots and results!
While I provided the base artwork from the flyer, and Thomas Fiske provided the photos for most of the classes, I have to give a HUGE thanks to MX Trophies for whipping up these awesome awards in time for the event. They are cut from acrylic with a unique design on each (the class images change for each, and they are pictures that were taken at the track!).
Below are the results, followed by podium shots!

Now at the end of all the mains we did a special race, a DASH FOR CA$H! This was a separate entry fee that we tied in with the CMN Benefit Raffle. Basically it was treated as a 50/50. $10 to enter, and $5 of it goes towards the Children’s Miracle Network raffle (you did get a ticket to win the car as well) and the remaining $5 goes to the winner. We took signups for the mini-event via Facebook, and took the first 10 people and created a waiting list after. A few racers dropped out due to bad weather up North and a hairy drive home, so they had us resell their spots and put all their money towards the charity. THANKS GUYS!
We came up with a set of rules for the mini-event that are as follows:
- 8 minute race. Rolling start.
- Track was run in the opposite direction it is run for weekly racing. (Nobody was allowed to practice backwards between the announcement of the Dash and the race).
- It’s a race. Not a demo derby. Anyone who is intentionally wrecking other people on purpose will be warned and possibly DQ’ed at the race director’s discretion. If you get taken out intentionally, you ARE able to get marshalled.
- No reverse.
- No marshalls. If you flip and become disabled, you have 30 seconds to rectify yourself (by radio only) before a designated person walks out to remove you from the track to create less chaos and prevent your truck from being broken. If a buddy is willing to try to flip you with his car, that’s legal, but only for that 30 second period.
- Open to any class of vehicle racing that day, which means nobody can JUST come to enter the dash, and nobody can run something they didn’t run earlier (like an E-Revo or 1/8 E-Buggy).
Winner also got a plaque with the $50 and title of DASH FOR CA$H Champion.

Thanks to everyone involved with running the show. It was a great time and we look forward to helping more in the future. I also want to point out that we raised $205 for Children’s Miracle Network between individual raffle ticket sales, and the DASH FOR CA$H! If you missed out on a ticket at the event, they are still available online thru our form on THIS PAGE.
