This bench would be our home for the weekend. Each racer was strictly limited to 4′ of bench (that means 2 to each 8′ table) for obvious spacial concerns. Their pits are nicely configured with a shelf to hold stuff and conveniently placed outlets. It was a great spot, right near the heat sheets (good thing we don’t mind traffic).
I ran my Associated SC10 that you’ve all seen before. Sporting my 2 year old NERDS body. I was hoping to unveil a new one this weekend but unforeseen circumstances delayed the finish of that body (but you will see it very soon). My truck after a few tweaks and rounds of practice never felt better. I still suck, and we don’t claim to be world-class drivers. I thought I did ok tho. I wound up somewhere mid-field which is normal for me. I always claim to be a better writer than I am a racer, but I still very much enjoy getting out on the track.
I want to thank Jason Punty for some key setup tips and letting me borrow some awesome tires (that the hobbyshop didn’t have in stock) that really helped make my truck handle well. It got faster every round with the changes I kept making. It was hooked up. I just needed to be a little more consistent and I could have tightened up my lines to finish a little better. Overall though I’m happy with the result. I had fun, to me thats what matters most.
Jarodd ran the Atomik V2MR again. Only it’s 4th big race with us. He did ok with it. We struggled to get speed out of it and it had a couple minor mechanical issues that I think held it back a little bit from being a real contender.
Jarodd was doing great in the first round of qualifying of 2wd Modified Short Course. He ran fast enough to make the “A” heat for the 2nd round of qualifying. A couple bobbles in the remaining qualifiers and his first run didn’t hold up to the stiff competition. He ended up getting the pole position for the C Main which still isn’t bad considering the amount of entries. He lead most of it, lost the lead towards the end and couldn’t get it back in time. He finished 2nd and missed the bump to the B Main. Not a bad run at all though.
JConcepts Bar Codes were the hot tire for him most of the weekend. That Fabuloso sure makes for some sticky tires.
I want to give a special shoutout to the Portabellas pizza guy. He delivered us lunch on Saturday and the stuff was amazing. Great pizza. I felt bad for him as he must have made 100 trips back and forth to the track throughout the weekend. Good stuff.
Track/racing photos up next.
