This is event coverage from our buddy Joe Vermillion. We haven’t covered a lot of the aerial side of RC. Joe’s here to help us out with that.
August 24th brought the third installment of the CARDS R/C of Grandledge Michigan’s Electric Fly-in event! With sunny skies, light variable wind, and 80-85 degree weather at hand, this years events was a complete success.
R/C pilots from all over were with us to show off their Electric’s. Who most people would consider the “God-Father” of electric flight Keith Shaw even made CARDS field his home for the day!
It was very exciting for everyone at the event to speak with Keith as well as see many of his own models on display. Keith’s portion of the Noon Demo Included several of his creations. This is a very scale version of the original Wright Flyer, that sported wing defection as its navigational means.
Keith also featured a few different Horton Flying wings that included a 12ft wing span version as well as an HO-229. The 12ft. wing is in its 26th year of flight! It was amazing to be able to see some of the aircraft Shaw used in the development of the electric side of our beloved hobby.
CARDS Noon Demo also featured an amazing looking and sounding EDF Version of the ME-262 as well as and Acrobatic Display put on by Precision Aerobatics Team Pilots Jim Winder, and Joe Vermillion. Those two can flat out FLY!
Over all everyone at this years event had a wonderful time of Flying and fellowship and all look forward to the 4th Annual CARDS R/C Electric Fly-in. I know I do!
Thanks Joe!! These planes sure do look amazing.
