This is the Duratrax 19-in-1 Tool Set for Traxxas Vehicles. It’s meant to be a basic, all-in-one tool set to keep your r/c maintenance easy. It’s marketed for Traxxas vehicles (with their popularity, you can probably understand why) but it’s really pretty useful to work on any R/C and has most common size tools used.
The kit is self contained in a Duratrax logo’d nylon pouch. All the bits and ratchet are secured inside with elastic loops. It includes an ergonomic ratchet handle, a turnbuckle wrench, and 11 bits consisting of nut drivers, hex drivers, & screwdrivers. All but the nut drivers have 2 different sized ends.
One nice feature about the ratchet is the adjustable bit length. The bits lock into the handle and are adjustable so you can access even the hardest to reach screws. The ratchet mechanism doesn’t make any traditional ratcheting noise, which I found odd at first, but it definitely still works. The handle can be put into forward or reverse ratcheting action, or used as a straight driver in the locked position.
The kit includes:
4, 5, 5.5, 7 and 8mm Nut Drivers
1.5, 2, 2.5, 3, 3.5, and 4mm Hex Drivers
#0, #00, #1 Phillips Screwdrivers
2, 3, and 4mm Slotted Head Screwdrivers
5, 8mm Turnbuckle Wrench
Ratchet Handle
That’s a pretty impressive assortment of sizes. If you figure most “hobby grade” hex/nut drivers retail for $10/ea, then this product covers over $120 in traditional drivers, not to mention that it’s a lot more compact.
One thing the kit doesn’t include is some of the common Standard SAE sizes used on certain kits (not used on Traxxas). It also lacks the commonly lost and misplaced .050 size used in pinion grub screws.
That said, will I be replacing the current precision tool set I already have with this, probably not. However, when I want to pack light for a trip to the park or bashing spot, this is the perfect solution for a quick fix. It would also be ideal for anyone starting out in the hobby and wants a quality tool set for next to nothing ($20 is a steal). It sure beats L-shaped allen keys.
