Serpent Cobra 811 B-e 2.0 1/8 E-buggy Build

Time for the motor to be installed. Here’s that sensor wire again.

P1090473

We’re running the TenShock X812 6 pole 2150kv motor.

P1090474

The case is finned to help with heat dissipation.

P1090475

In this bag we have the motor mount cam, pinion, etc.

P1090476 P1090477

First we mount the cam to the motor using the included screws.

P1090478

There’s no guide telling you how far to mount the pinion on, so you have to do it by trial and error.

P1090480

Once you get the pinion on to where it meets the spur gear, it’s just a matter of sliding the motor cam in the mount, adjusting the mesh, and cranking it down.

P1090481

Then we have the wing. It’s pre-drilled and just pops on the mount.

P1090482

Then attached with 2 screws and wing buttons.

P1090483

We have ourselves an almost-roller!

P1090484

Maybe we should tidy up these electronics. I chopped the gigantic 6mm bullets off of the motor leads and soldered on 4mm plugs that were included with the 150A. This will make it easy for plug removal if I need to pull the motor for any reason in the future.
I also mounted up my AMB transponder and installed my SR3001 Spektrum receiver.

P1090486

I also soldered in another Deans male plug so that it will put the 2 lipos packs in series when connected (rather than use an extra Y harness). I thought about just putting bullets on the leads, but the one side was a bit short. This will work for now.

With the electronics done, we’re basically ready to fire this beast up. Before I hit the track though, there was one thing I wanted to do.. protect the underside of this awesome chassis.

P1090490

I worked with my pal Geo over at Twisted Skins to design up a sweet RC Soup skin. We had a short time window, so I actually traced the template myself, sent him the Photoshop blank, and when he sent me back the finished design, I printed it on my own printable vinyl. It’s not the proper material he usually gets done, but it worked in a pinch and looks awesome. Here it is printed and trimmed.

Here she is all mounted up.

P1090493

It does a nice job of preventing dirt from getting into the heads of all the screws, as well as protecting the chassis from scratches. It probably won’t last long outdoors.. but it’s worth a shot.

P1090494

Here it is, all buttoned up ready to hit the track!
