CRC Raceway is our home track. It’s still about an hour away, but that is where Team Soup frequents the most when we aren’t attending a bigger race. CRC stands for Calandra Racing Concepts, and is run by the very same guys who make the world renowned 1/12 and 1/10 carpet road course and oval pan cars. Not only do they run those in the fall (with a national level of local drivers), they also run one of the nicest outdoor off-road facilities in the Northeast.
The CRC Awards Banquet celebrates the last year of racing. Points awards are handed out for 4 consecutive racing seasons (the amount they race in a calendar year).
The seasons include:
2012 Outdoor Off Road
2012 Carpet On-Road
2012 Carpet Oval
2013 Carpet Off Road
It’s a lot to cover in one sitting, but since they do this only once a year, they are sure to make it special for the devoted racers. There’s food, awards (not just for racing), door prizes, and good times.
Here’s a couple shots of the facility. It was held at Colosseo’s in Sherrill, NY. The food here is always dialed. They are a traditional Italian restaurant, and served pizza, salad, chicken parmesan, sausage & peppers, ziti, and more for dinner.
After everyone was finished eating, CRC cranked out the awards. They gave away plaques to most First, Second, and Third place finishers in Points across each class, and season. They also did special awards, like Most Improved Driver, Rookie of the Year, Iron Man, etc. That’s a lot of awards. Winners received CRC gift cards and/or Free Race entries. They also gave awards for perfect attendance, so if you never missed a race during onroad season, your name goes in the drawing. If you didn’t miss a single carpet offroad race either, you got a 2nd entry, and etc. They drew names from the perfect attendance box for big prizes like CRC Lipos, other electronics, and even bigger prizes like choice of a kit that CRC manufactures.
Now, you didn’t have to make every race to win a prize. They gave away door prizes (even big ones), just to folks who showed up for the banquet. A couple wives ended up with CRC T-Shirts. Tony’s pizza donated a few free small pizza vouchers as well (I won one of those last year – Tasty!). Great to see so much given back to the racers. I think I heard the total value of awards/door prizes was something like $4,000 or more. Makes me wonder how many other tracks take care of their racers as well as CRC does (feel free to comment below).
Some of the door prizes/awards.
And of course.. what is a banquet without dessert? They served some awesome cake after dinner.
I don’t have a full list of all the season winners, but figured I’d share a little note about the banquet for those that missed it, and also show others what being a part of the CRC racing family is like. Below are a few more of the awards photos.
See ya at the races!
