We turn to page 1, and open Bag A. As with most other kits, Durango includes a 1:1 size picture of the pertinent parts to ease finding the correct part for that step of the build.
In Bag A we will tackle the 3 differentials. This is the spur gear, and will form half of the center differential. The kit includes a full complement of bearings.
We’ll slide one of the outdrives in next.
This O-ring will help stop the differential fluid from leaking out through the outdrive.
This is the other half of the center differential housing.
It too gets an outdrive. The center differential outdrives are slightly different than those of the front and rear differentials. I sorted them before starting the build in the sections of my Cow RC work mat so I knew which was which.
Another O-Ring for the other side of the differential housing.
This is the second of two bevel gears within the center diff.
I used Team Associated differential fluid on this build. I’m starting with the base setup that is outlined in the back of the manual.
You don’t want to fill the diff to the top, you need to leave room for the bevel gear on the other half of the housing, Picture filling a bath tub with water, then getting in. The water level gets higher because it is displaced by your body. Same principle. If you fill it too much, fluid will leak out when you try to seal it.
Now we can screw the two halves together.
The front and rear differentials go together much the same way. I’ll build them simultaneously to save time. The only difference will be the front diff will receive 7k diff fluid, whereas the rear will get 2k diff fluid.
The included bearings for the diffs get thrown on
The 4 outdrives for these two differentials are all the same as each other.
O Rings
Pins
Bevel gears
Planetary gears
Diff fluid. Again the only difference here is the weight of the fluid depending on which one is going where on the car.
Four screws per to hold them together
[…] a DEX408, and will be reviewing it over the course of the next few months. Check out the build here __________________ http://www.rcsoup.com – R/C Reviews, News, and Tips <<- PM Me if you'd like […]
