The most recent race with the V2MR was the Hillbilly Hoedown at Redneck RC. It is a newer facility with a great track and setup. We had done some testing there before we went to Motorama but this was our first actual race there. The setup on the Atomik buggy was off from what I used at Motorama.
At this race I was running in the Open class, but because the track is relatively tight I decided to run just a boosted 13.5. The car was edgy and lacked off power steering. Every corner on the track was off camber so cutting a tight line was difficult. I lowered the shock oil weight and shortened the front camber links. It helped a bunch. Then I increased the ride height in the rear. It felt much better. It was then more a matter of getting used to the track. There was only time enough for 2 qualifiers to fit the race in.
After 2 rounds I was finally feeling comfortable with the buggy. I qualified 3rd for the B main. At the start I hung back from the front two buggies. After a couple laps they got tangled and I got by. I lead the rest of the way and got the bump to the A main. At the start of the A main I just tried not to take anyone out. I was all the way up to 6th when I landed awkwardly on my right rear and it broke the axle. That is the second shaft that broke since I have been racing it (more on that later). I finished 6th. I was very happy with the result. Getting into the A main was a feat in itself.
