Time for the mains! The Mains were posted, and the announcement was made that the winner of each of the lower mains would bump up.
2wd Stock Short Course would open up the final round with the C Main of that class. Justin Begor would take it over 2nd place finisher Mark Sypolt by just 1.67 seconds!
Next up was the 2wd 1/10 buggy/Stock SCB Main. I took our RC Soup test car, the Arrma ADX-10, to a 3rd place podium finish!
Rick Redmin, however, would continue his dominance in this class, taking the win by a full lap over 2nd place.
In Short Course Buggy, it was a hard fought battle. But in the end, Nate Lafleur would edge out Cruz Zachary to take the win.
Next up was the C Main of the 4wd SCT class. Hard Luck award winner Caleb Hall would take the win, bumping up to the B Main.
Race 4 was the B Main for 2wd SCT stock. I had qualified 4th in this main, with high hopes of taking the win, and the bump to the coveted A Main. It would not be my lucky day unfortunately. After only a couple of laps my truck lost power. I was able to limp it to pit road, and found a motor wire had come unplugged. I got it back on the track, and made a few more laps, but they never counted. My transponder wasn’t working. I wanted to make sure it was going to be good for my next class, so I got it working again in time to count two more laps before the race finished. Dominick Pettinelli would win the B Main, earning the bump to the A.
The very next race, I was up again in the B Main of 4wd SCT. Kevin and I get ready for our grudge match.
My SSC Slash was very fast on this run, and Kevin’s Team RCE Slash was really handling well.
It was a good race, but in the end I would beat Kevin. Unfortunately I didn’t win the Main though, so my day was over. Zachary Sybolt would win the 4wd SCT B Main, earning the bump up to the A later in the day. The B Main for 2wd open short course was up next. The volunteer marshal of the weekend winner Jimmy G won this one with style, full lap over second.
There were a lot of story lines surrounding the 2wd Stock Short Course A Main. Would the winner be one of the young guns? Maybe Doug Smith and his brand new Losi 22SCT? Or would TQ Jarodd Goedel continue his dominance of the class and hold out for the win? It was a great race to watch, and in the end Team Soup’s own Jarodd Goedel would emerge victorious! Great driving, Jarodd!
It was time for the big boys to have their fun, and the 1/8th E Buggies took to the track. These things really fly, and early on it looked like there were a couple of challengers to the TQ. After the long ten minute main, an upset was not to be. Rick Redmin took the checkered flag, completing the buggy romp he put on throughout the event.
It was finally time for the heavy hitters to duke it out in 4wd Open SCT. This race was an absolute treat to watch. The lead went back and forth a few times between the TQ John Firsching and Frank Calandra Jr. Mark Smyka kept sticking his nose in there, trying to take the lead. Ultimately, Frank would beat out all comers, taking the win.
The last race of the day was the A Main for 2wd open SCT. Brothers John and Tom Firsching would both earn their way onto the podium, with John taking the win. Richard Herholtz was second, with his freshly built 22SCT. Tom was camera shy apparently.
The 1st Annual Intergalactic Short Course Championships was by all accounts a resounding success. The races were held efficiently, and with very little down time. I think the CRC crew did a fabulous job, and should be commended. CRC Raceway will be holding this race every year, with the hopes that they can grow it bigger and bigger. And who knows? Maybe next year, R2D2 will come down and race against us!
