Let’s have a look at the electronics. Pull the motor wires up into the chassis through the holes in the bottom. Tamiya includes the TEU-103BK ESC. The original kit included a mechanical speed control. The TEU-103BK has hookups for two motors. Notice below, that on one motor the wires are hooked up yellow-yellow, green-green, and the other is yellow-blue, green-yellow. This will make the motors spin in opposite directions when powered. This is needed so that the two motors are pulling in the same direction.
The Tamiya TEU-103BK is designed to power the two included brushed motors. The ESC’s on/off switch gets mounted to the chassis so that the switch can be accessed from the outside without removing the body.
The wires are starting to get a little crowded in there so I threw a tie wrap on to keep them neat and tidy.
This is what Tamiya refers to in the manual as the mechanism deck. It is where the ESC will ultimately mount, and has a hole for routing the wires up through.
Tamiya supplies a little bit of two sided tape in the kit, we’ll use two pieces for the ESC
The tray makes for a clean spot to mount the ESC
Next, we’ll drop in the receiver included with our Spektrum DX3C.
The ESC wire has a little tab on it, meant for aligning it in the receiver so you don’t hook it up backwards.
However, the Spektrum receiver doesn’t have the slot to accommodate that tab, so you have to trim it off.
We plug in the steering servo and the ESC, as well as the bind plug in preparation for binding the receiver to the radio
