Hello there RC Soup fans. It’s been a while since I’ve had the opportunity to contribute here but I’m pleased to tell you about the most recent RC Soup Build Project that I had the privilege to work on, the new Chuckworks RC Slice 4X.
Here is our test subject for this project, a Traxxas Slash 4X4. I purchased this truck last summer.
We all love the Slash 4X4 as it is extremely durable and a blast to bash with. Unfortunately as a truck to race with at our local tracks the inherent problem is the high COG (center of gravity) that these trucks have out of the box. As RC Soup’ers Matt and Kevin have mentioned in their recent Team RCE and Shining Star Chassis builds/conversions we really wanted to go racing with the venerable Slash 4X4 but we needed to be competitive out on the track alongside the potent Losi TEN-SCTE, AE SC10 4X4, Team Durango DESC10r and the Ofna stable of 4X4 short course racing trucks.
Enter the Chuckworks RC Slice 4X Chassis Conversion for the Traxxas Slash 4X4.
This kit is designed and cut on a high tech CNC Router. It is comprised of G10 fiberglass and high strength plastic featuring an upper and lower deck configuration making the chassis rigid and very durable. Chuck Ellis is the engineering wizard at Chuckworks RC and the man behind the Slice 2WD and Slice 4X conversion kits for the Traxxas Slash 2WD and 4WD Short Course trucks (www.chuckworksrc.com)
From start to finish the actual conversion took me approximately 2.5 hours total, so if you decide to go for one of these kits, plan on spending an afternoon or evening to get after it and get-R-done. Chuck includes some instructions with the kit with good pictures to help with assembly.
You can also find some assembly help on his website
A couple of tips. Have some Locktite on hand. I used it on every screw/bolt. Have a well lit work area, it helps to eliminate shadows inside the chassis, especially when installing the servo horn and centering it up.
OK, here we go:
