Dustin Evans wins 2wd modified at 1st annual Top Gun Challenge

Dustin Evans begins his Southern California tour with a win and TQ at the first annual Top Gun Challenge with JConcepts.

The Top Gun Challenge in San Diego, CA, brought out many of SoCal’s best drivers including Ryan Cavalieri, Matt Castellano and Brent Thielke. Arizona driver Brian Kinwald and Denver’s own Dustin Evans were also in attendance to challenge a fast group of local drivers at SDRC Raceway.

TLR / JConcepts driver Dustin Evans was on point during the late stages of qualifying. During round 2 of qualifying Dustin built some confidence after taking TQ in a round in the 2wd modified class and then taking overall TQ in the modified truck class. During a changing track condition Dustin settled on the trusty JConcepts Bar Codes in blue compound to tame the SDRC track conditions. AE / JConcepts driver Brian Kinwald, also in attendance, would line up 2^nd in both 2wd and 4wd Short Course classes and 6^th in the 2wd modified class on Bar Codes in green compound.

During A1 in the 2wd modified class, Dustin made a move into 1^st place on the 2^nd lap and had a considerable lead after a mistake by the leader. Dustin’s TLR 22 was dialed and his racing program peaked at the right time as he pulled away to a huge victory in A1. During A2 Cavalieri led out during the first few laps but a small mistake put Dustin into the lead on lap 4. Dustin kept up the pace and dropped the hammer turning the quickest lap of the main on lap 9 pushing the lead out to several seconds over TLR teammate Castellano. Dustin cruised in on the remaining laps to wrap up A2 and taking the overall championship. Dustin gripped the dirt all weekend with JConcepts utilizing the V1 Bar Codes (rear) and Bar Codes (front) in blue compound and Profiled “closed cell” rear inserts (3206-2).

Matt Olson racing the MIP Pro4-mance / Losi TEN-SCTE vehicle took the TQ and 1^st place in the super competitive 4×4 SCT class. Matt used a popular combination of the SCT Bar Codes tires in gold compound all weekend long. Brian Kinwald was just a small tick behind finishing in the 2^nd position with his JConcepts equipped SC10 4×4, JConcepts Pressure Points / Bar Codes tires and Hi-flow body.
