Privateer Wouter Wynen, driving an X Factory X – 6 Squared, won the third round of the BeNeLux Championship held over last weekend at MAC Vlijmen. Wynen TQed the event and won A-1, looking sure to take all the marbles.
But in A-2, youngster Wesley Von Helmond came from 3rd on the grid to nip Wouter, so Wynen needed to finish A-3 ahead of Von Helmond in order to sew up the win. Wouter and Wesley pulled away in A – 3, Wesley leading, with X-Team driver Bruno Heremans in a comfortable third. Midway through the race Wesley clipped the inside pipe of two successive corners and Wouter got through into the lead with Bruno closing right up in third.
To win the meeting Von Helmond had to finish ahead of Wynen, and as the 5 minute mark neared, Wesley tried to get by any way he could. With just two corners to go, there was contact between the two leaders and “Elvo” Heremans slipped by to take the win in A-3. So Wouter Wynen’s X – 6 Squared won the event, with Elvo and Wesley tied on points. The countback gave Wesley second and Elvo third.
There were four X – 6 Squareds in the A Main at Vlijmen.
Elvo Heremans continues to lead the seven-race BeNeLux series after three events, with a 10-point lead over John Debacquer, a privateer also driving an X – 6 Squared. Another privateer, Arjan Van De Graaf, lies fourth in the Championship with his X – 6 Squared.
