Just like an artist’s canvas, we start out with a clean slate. Ok, my Cow RC Mat has seen better days
We are starting off with a Ready to Run Traxxas Slash 4×4, Model 6808.
Up first, we are going to start dismantling the stock chassis
The rear clip is held on by 4 screws. Two on top
And two on the bottom
You have to wiggle it a bit, and you can separate the whole rear clip
Lets move up to the front. First we’ll remove the servo horn from the stock servo.
Next up we remove the stock receiver and waterproof receiver box
The servo is held to the chassis by 4 screws from the top
Remove the ESC – only two scresws hold it down
To remove the motor, you first have to remove the pinion cover
The motor is screwed to a plate, which is actually only held on by one screw. Once this screw it removed you can pivot the motor up and out
The front bumper comes off by removing only three M4 screws
Take out the two screws in the front of the chassis that go into the front shocktower as well as the two on the bottom
And you’ll be able to separate the front end from the chassis
A little bit of cleanup to do on the parts we removed so far…we need to remove the rear bumper
And the hinge pins
This plate helps keep the hinge pins aligned
And once it is removed we can pull out the hinge pins
On the front end, we’ll remove the steering rack
Pull the screws out of the steering posts
You need to keep the bearings on the stock steering posts. They can be kind of a pain to get off, but if you work them with a pair of pliers carefully applying equal pressure to both sides you can get them off
You’ll end up with the suspension on one piece, with the A arms being held only by the shocks
Here is the pile of stock parts we are going to reuse on the new chassis
