What else could they possibly have at this event? ROBOT CONFLICT!! That’s right.. the sport/hobby made popular by television years ago is alive and well at Motorama. The group that gathers to compete for this are deadly serious about their hobby. These are some beastly machines. They’re armed with weapons such as spinning arms, wedge bodies, flippers and chainsaw blades!
The robots use a lot of the same equipment we r/c racers do. Seen here, this bot uses 3 Holmes Hobbies TorqueMaster BR-XL speed controllers powering Dewalt drill motors. A lot of guys were also using lipo’s, hyperion chargers, and Spektrum radio gear. Pretty cool to see all the same gear used so differently in competition.
Back to the R/C arena, Kevin Hetmanski of RC Car Action hosted a Girl Racer Challenge and Pros vs. Joes race. Here you can see the stand and the Losi XXX-SCT trucks used for the competition. Each truck was wheeled by a pro for a few laps, and one was deemed the winner, who received $50 and a truck I believe. The Pros then coached the girls, who competed against each other for the same few laps. The pro who won the first round, ended up being the coach of the girl who won! They paused racing for this event.
The Losi trucks all lined up.
Close by Horizon Hobby had a booth setup with all of their Losi line of vehicles on display as well. They were sponsoring the Car Action race above. A number of other companies had booths setup at the event that we didn’t get pics for including 2 hobby shops, AJS Machine, Sweep Racing, JConcepts, and Hobbico.
Losi Mini 8ight!
Losi 22 and 22T!
Overall it was one heck of a weekend. With the races having 712 entries between both tracks, if you only raced one class, there was HOURS between heats for you. This allowed plenty of time to check out the rest of the show, which was really cool and not something you can say at any other race I’ve ever been to. Basically, if you are into anything with a motor, Motorama is the place to be in February! We are looking forward to coming back next year.
