And the winner is…..
The Chuckworks RC Slice A3!!!!
All three of these chassis are marked improvements over the stock Traxxas Slash. With enough tuning, all three could be very competitive. However, with its mid motor design, the Slice A3 really shines in the handling department.
All three have their fine points. The STRC kit is more main stream. You can get it in several hobby shops & online. Add some easy to find Traxxas parts, and you’re good to go. It handles pretty good with the stock shocks and springs, but if you were to fiddle with spring selection and shock oils, you could make this a very formidable racer. In our test truck, the rear end had a tendency to bottom out over jumps. Ride height was set so the rear arms angled slightly up. Now, if we were to put a thicker oil in the back, maybe it would soak up all that extra weight. The STRC portions of the kit are 100% behind the chassis, right around the rear end. Great for traction, not so good for weight balance.
The WMD chassis is just plain cool. It is a conversation starter to say the least. It is also a very capable chassis. The Slash carries a good majority of its weight around the rear axle. If you were to add some weight to the front of the WMD, it would help it steer a little sharper while on power.
Bottom line, you can’t go wrong with any of these. But the Slice A3 takes the title for the biggest improvement over stock. It’s actually pretty amazing.
‘jarodd’ realy seems to have it in for WMD, what a shame i’m getting one soon as i can!
I think he has a different driving style than the rest of us. He’s a really good driver though. All of the chassis did well, and I really liked the WMD. Can’t really go wrong with any of them.
It was a good time wheeling all 3 trucks. All 3 were a HUGE improvement over a stock Slash in the handling department. To me, they each had a little different character in handling/jumping, etc. The Slice chassis was on rails. Period. It turned in-thru-off corners awesome + with that mid mount motor set up it is just plain cool. The WMD was a blast to wheel as well but I agree with everyone else, it seemed to push more due to lighter front end and required more use of brake to get it to turn tight. I found it very predictable though. The STRC Slash seemed (to me) to have a nice balance all around the track.
As we all agreed, with some fine tuning on shock oil, springs and overall set up any/all 3 would be formidable opponents on the racetrack
