Traxxas Slash 2wd LCG Chassis Shootout

Chuckworks RC Slice A3

Handling

Matt – (5) Amazing. Mid motor really makes this thing turn
Kevin – (5) Wow. So much steering it’s ridiculous. The mid motor setup seems to help a ton. With some tuning this could be really fast
Jarodd – (5) Good on power steering. Excellent corner entry
Jim – (4) Turns in and out of corners very nicely. Tightest turning of the three
Average Score: 4.75

Jumping Ability

Matt – (3.5) Very heavy feeling in the air, but flies straight and level
Kevin – (4) Flew level, but still has a tendency to land hard and bottom out (but better than the STRC)
Jarodd – (4) Jumped nice and flat. Longer jumps needed only small brake adjustments
Jim – (4) Predictable and flies flat
Average Score: 3.875

Speed

Matt – (4) Great speed, especially into and out of corners
Kevin – (4.5) Had good speed in the straight and could hold it through the corners
Jarodd – (3) Good speed, tracked well going into the straight
Jim – (4) Truck was very good on throttle
Average Score: 3.875

Ease of Assembly *Note – only one person worked on this build

Matt – (4) This one took the longest of the three to build. Instructions were mostly small pictures. Could use bigger pictures, or just link to our build article. Otherwise a fairly easy build
Average Score: 4

Durability

Matt – (3.5) Nothing on the chassis broke, but had to swap a shock out due to lost shock oil (Traxxas shock)
Kevin – (5) Nothing broke
Jarodd – (4) Nothing broke. Looks and feels sturdy
Jim – (3) Nothing broke while I was running the truck
Average Score: 3.875

Notes

Matt – I want to put a 4 pole motor in this truck to handle the extra weight, and use it in the mod class. Very forgiving to drive, very fast in the corners.
Jim – Best turning truck of the three

‘jarodd’ realy seems to have it in for WMD, what a shame i’m getting one soon as i can!

I think he has a different driving style than the rest of us. He’s a really good driver though. All of the chassis did well, and I really liked the WMD. Can’t really go wrong with any of them.

It was a good time wheeling all 3 trucks. All 3 were a HUGE improvement over a stock Slash in the handling department. To me, they each had a little different character in handling/jumping, etc. The Slice chassis was on rails. Period. It turned in-thru-off corners awesome + with that mid mount motor set up it is just plain cool. The WMD was a blast to wheel as well but I agree with everyone else, it seemed to push more due to lighter front end and required more use of brake to get it to turn tight. I found it very predictable though. The STRC Slash seemed (to me) to have a nice balance all around the track.
As we all agreed, with some fine tuning on shock oil, springs and overall set up any/all 3 would be formidable opponents on the racetrack

Guys I want to take the time to say THANK YOU to people over at RcSoup.com from Matt and myself. The feedback that you guys gave us will allow us to make improvements to our current v2 LCG chassis. It was an honor to be part of your shootout and we look forward to hearing more good news.
