Traxxas Slash 2wd LCG Chassis Shootout

STRC

Handling

Matt – (4) Very smooth in the corners, no traction rolling at all
Kevin – (4) No traction roll, could maintain speed through corners without fear of breaking loose
Jarodd – (4) Good corner entry steering. Loose on middle and exit of corner
Jim – (4) Overall it was pretty consistent all over the track, a little loose on power in tight corners
Average Score: 4

Jumping Ability

Matt – (3.5) Jumps like a dump truck. Flies level but the rear bottoms out
Kevin – (3.5) Seemed to jump straight and fly level
Jarodd – (3) Good jumping ability with slight brake at apex of flight
Jim – (3) Jumping seemed pretty average for a Slash. If you rolled jumps it was pretty stable
Average Score: 3.25

Speed

Matt – (3.5) Plenty of speed for this track, couldn’t clear the double but otherwise was quick
Kevin –  (4) Didn’t have enough speed to clear the double, had to roll it. But did very well otherwise
Jarodd – (4) Good top end speed, had to be careful on entry to straight
Jim – (4) Had decent speed on back straight, had good corner speed as long as no full throttle punch. Entry speed good, predictable
Average Score: 3.875

Ease of Assembly – *note: only one person worked on this build

Matt – (4.5) Very easy to build, from start to finish was approximately 2 hours
Average Score: 4.5

Durability

Matt – (3) every week there is an issue with the steering. It happened during our test as well, where if you catch the right front tire on a corner just right, you either snap the servo saver, or the steering bellcrank.
Kevin – (3) broke a bellcrank during shootout (Jim not me :))
Jarodd – (3)
Jim – (3) steering bellcrank broke (direct hit by fellow racer) Any truck would have broken
Average Score: 3

Notes:

Matt – with a little more suspension tuning, this could be a formidable race truck
Kevin – drives sort of like an SC10. Tires worked great and stuck to clay
Jim – No traction rolling, predictable cornering and jumping

‘jarodd’ realy seems to have it in for WMD, what a shame i’m getting one soon as i can!

    • Kevin says:

I think he has a different driving style than the rest of us. He’s a really good driver though. All of the chassis did well, and I really liked the WMD. Can’t really go wrong with any of them.

It was a good time wheeling all 3 trucks. All 3 were a HUGE improvement over a stock Slash in the handling department. To me, they each had a little different character in handling/jumping, etc. The Slice chassis was on rails. Period. It turned in-thru-off corners awesome + with that mid mount motor set up it is just plain cool. The WMD was a blast to wheel as well but I agree with everyone else, it seemed to push more due to lighter front end and required more use of brake to get it to turn tight. I found it very predictable though. The STRC Slash seemed (to me) to have a nice balance all around the track.
As we all agreed, with some fine tuning on shock oil, springs and overall set up any/all 3 would be formidable opponents on the racetrack

Guys I want to take the time to say THANK YOU to people over at RcSoup.com from Matt and myself. The feedback that you guys gave us will allow us to make improvements to our current v2 LCG chassis. It was an honor to be part of your shootout and we look forward to hearing more good news.
