Here she is in all her glory. The shrink-wrapped CC-01 Unimog box, ready to be torn open by a modeler with the excitement of a tweenybopper at a Lady Gaga concert. Maybe that’s taking it too far.. but I’m sure you know what I mean.
Tamiya boxing engineers do their work marvelously once again. Everything is nice and snug, nothing just thrown in the box.
These are the parts I am going to install from the get-go. Well.. I take that back. I did not install the Traxxas Stampede waterproof receiver box (TRAC6628) as planned. It will get installed eventually though. The rest of it from left to right:
Tekin 45t brushed crawler motor (bought used on RCCrawler.com).
Bearing set from Fast Eddy Bearings. They don’t sell a kit made just for the CC-01, but it’s easy to piece together. Order the following:
5 x 8mm 3pcs
5 x 11mm 11pcs
6 x 12mm 2pcs
10 x 15mm 2pcs
*At time of writing, Fast Eddy had free shipping over $20.. these bearings add up to $17 or so, I recommend padding your order with a couple spares for another vehicle. I went with Rubber shielded as they tend to keep out the elements best.
Robinson Racing 16 tooth Metric Pinion (RRPC1116). Through the years I’ve owned MANY Tamiya kits, and their included pinions are made of a REALLY soft metal that always sharpens and wears out quickly. Highly recommend using an RRP Pinion.
Traxxas 2075 High Torque Steering Servo.
PPR Slots – Z-OPT Heavy RC Grease (From their site: Optimum performance grease! Super smooth & slippery with special additives! Displaces moisture and fights corrosion! Will stay put & leave a protective coating!)
Also notice the trusty Cow R/C Jumbo Pit Mat.. I don’t start a build without it now. LOVE this thing.
Here’s a shot of all/most of the plastic parts bags spread out, ready to be torn open.
