Regarding the electronics that were installed during the kit build, everything worked pretty flawless.
RC4WD‘s Outcry esc powered the CR-01 without as much as a hiccup. It had good throttle control that wasn’t jerky and the drag brake kept the truck from rolling backwards on the rocks. Drag brake is extremely important in the world of crawling. Basically what it does is keep your rig from rolling in either direction by keeping brakes applied to the motor, essentially locking the truck in place. This is helpful when making a tricky approach.
The Venom Lipo battery had some fitment issues (top ports are blocked by the battery strap). A couple quick cuts with a dremel tool and it fits just fine. Since the CR-01 isn’t racing at 40mph around an offroad track, the marginally weakened strap should still do a fine job of keeping the battery secure. I had no issues while running it with the modded strap.
FlySky‘s GT-2 2.4ghz radio is a BARGAIN at around $20 shipped. What impresses me most is how comfortable it is. The radio has a very ergonomic grip. It’s also very easy to adjust the trims, monitor battery levels, and has most features your typical sport radio has. I experienced no issues running the truck with this radio. You would think that such a budget radio would be terrible, but it really wasn’t, at all. I’d recommend the radio to anyone looking for a sport 2.4ghz transmitter. It would be perfect to replace a RTR AM radio.
