Having owned and seen various comp-style crawlers, I know how capable those are. In stock form the CR-01 is sort of limited in comparison. The cantilever suspension, while unique and certainly capable, doesn’t quite deliver the really stable climb of a full-on comp crawler. I ran the CR-01 in stock form (and it’s staying that way thru the raffle). A few cheap mods could make it quite a bit more capable though. Mods like installing lead weights in the front tires, running memory foam inserts, mounting the electronics/battery as low as possible, etc will all yield significant performance enhancements.
Don’t let any of the above get you down. The CR-01 is still a terrific crawler option. It drives smooth, turns sharp (even sharper if you run it with the included 4 wheel steering parts and a 2nd servo), and is a pleasure to wheel around the trails.
