2WD Short Course Truck Shootout

Team Associated SC10 RTR

Finally, you can now have Team Associated’s world-class performance with true scale authenticity in a 1:10 scale electric short course truck! Team Associated is proud to bring to you the SC10—a 1:10 scale electric 2WD off road, authentic short course race-truck kit.

Based on a lengthened version of the 6-time ROAR National Championship-winning RC10T4, the engineers behind the doors in Area-51 made the SC10 both all show and all go! The result is the SC10 kit, an authentic scale racing experience.

The SC10 comes ready to assemble with a clear short course race-truck body, KMC™ style wheels, aggressive tread multi-terrain tires, all of which have been designed to look just like the full-size race trucks that run in the various short course off-road series around the country. The world of high-performance 1:10 scale electric R/C has never before seen this level of scale accuracy! It’s easy to see that the SC10 is another champion by design!

Handling

Matt – (4) Very agile. Excellent turn in
Kevin – (4) Stock tires not great but did surprisingly ok. Took corners with speed. Very nimble.
Jarodd – (4) Handles very well. Good cornering speed
Jim – (4) The truck was a little loose in the corners, required more careful throttle use.
Average Score: 4

Jumping Ability

Matt – (4) Flew level, landings were soft, but truck didn’t bottom out
Kevin – (4) Flew high and level. Soaked up the jumps nicely with little bounce.
Jarodd – (5) Flies level, bumps are soaked up.
Jim – (4) Handled nice on jumps, predictable. Flies well and balanced if jump was hit straight on.
Average Score: 4.25

Speed

Matt – (4) Great corner speed, good top speed
Kevin – (4) Pretty fast and agile around the track
Jarodd – (3)
Jim – (3) Stock 17T Reedy seemed average for speed. Lack of traction could be the issue.
Average Score: 3.5

Wrenchability

Matt – (4) Everything looks accessible, no really tight areas
Kevin – (4) Very simple to work on
Jarodd – (3) Have to remove tire to adjust motor position
Jim – (4) Easy access to everything
Average Score: 3.75

Durability

Matt – (3) Being an SC10 owner, I’m aware there are some weak areas, but overall it’s fairly good
Kevin – (3) From past experience I know the front arms are a little fragile. Nothing broke on my run though.
Jarodd – (4) Many bad hits with no significant breaks
Jim – (4) No breakage in testing. My experience with AE SC10’s is that they are durable
Average Score: 3.5

Notes

Matt – Very stable truck, loved driving it
Kevin – GO AE!
Jim – Overall, I love the AE SC10. Well mannered on the track. With upgraded tires, handling would improve quite a bit. Stock AE tires are great on carpet or packed clay surface, but they don’t work well on loose surfaces.

not a bad write up. i dont agree with everything nor do i disagree with everything. come on…. the slash beat the blitz ??? 😉

  2. Richard Decker says:

I agree with you George, I had to remind HSG that a Blitz won the 100 lap indoor LOSI race this past winter…LOL, all kidding aside, a very good article, very detailed and insightful.

  3. Hispeedguy says:

Well, to be fair, I think the servo in the Blitz was getting ready to give up, so the steering was pretty slow and sluggish. I ran the that same RTR Blitz on the carpet at Buddy Boys and CRC last winter in stock form and w/ a 17.5 Novak BL system and Savox 1258 servo. I couldn’t get it to turn very good then either 🙂
Fun factor was very high on all 5 though.

  4. Matt says:

It was a total blast doing the test. Testing different vehicles is always subjective. We were basing our opinions on how those particular trucks performed. If my SC10 were the one we tested with it would have been a very different story.

This is a very good write up of these vehicles for someone new entering this hobby or anyone wanting to buy another rc car. If you guys need help when you do the 4wd I would love to participate. I think it is awesome that you guys did this. I am not the best but I have been in this sport racing for 18yrs. Again keep up the good work this is very useful information. JR
